#GERMANGP – MOTO2: ALDEGUER RETURNS TO WINNING WAYS IN GERMANY
It was a masterclass from Fermin Aldeguer (MB Conveyors SpeedUp) at the Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland. The #54 took his second victory of 2024 by 2.159s after Aldeguer put together the perfect end to the Grand Prix, maintaining a consistent lead. Behind Aldeguer at the line was Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Polarcube Aspar Team), who charged to a fantastic second position at the line after the #96 pulled off a key overtake on Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo). Meanwhile, MT Helmets – MSI’s Ai Ogura stole a late third at the line after conserving his tyre during the intense 25 laps.
The lights went out and Dixon produced a perfect launch off the line to steal the holeshot on the run to the technical Turn 1. However, polesitter Vietti quickly responded to reclaim first place on Lap 1 from Dixon, with Aldeguer only able to watch in third. Aldeguer worked hard in the early stages of the Grand Prix, storming into second at the end of Lap 3 before entering the second position. The #54 continued to put the hammer down and would put pressure on Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team), who would soon drop to second as Aldeguer attacked at Turn 12 one lap later.
It was a thrilling battle at the front with the lead changing every lap and five riders showing an inseparable pace at the front. Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team) would soon catch the group, bringing MT Helmets – MSI’s Ai Ogura and Sergio Garcia with him.
Meanwhile, it would be an early end to the Grand Prix for Darry Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) and Fantic Racing’s Roberto Garcia, who crashed at the tricky turn 1 in the opening stages. They would not be the only victim of Turn 1 with Mario Aji (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) crashing with three laps remaining.
The front group continued to change positions with the German crowd treated to a fantastic show and Ogura beginning to make position to edge towards the top five. Arbolino then made a mistake, dropping down to P5, allowing Aldeguer to bridge a comfortable 1.385s lead with less than 10 laps remaining. Dixon would soon charge into P2 after diving into second – dropping Vietti to third.
Meanwhile, Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing) entered the top 10 for the first time in a heroic ride. The #16 was aiming to keep his Championship hopes alive ahead of the summer break.
All eyes soon turned to the battle for P3, with Moreira charging into fourth on Lap 24 in the start of an incredible battle with Vietti and Ogura. While positions were changing at every corner behind, Aldeguer was able to cross the line and win the German GP after a fantastic ride. The #54 was 2.159s ahead of Dixon, with the British rider completing a strong weekend in Germany. Meanwhile, Ogura would be the rider in P3 after a brave move at the final corner to claim the final spot on the podium.
Fourth place went the way of Moreira, who put together the perfect drive out the final corner to demote Vietti to P5 after the Italian began to struggle with grip in the closing stages. Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia) completed a strong recovery ride in sixth after qualifying down in 17th on the grid. Garcia took P7 at the line ahead of Roberts, who continued to move further up the order to eighth. The American was ahead of Arbolino, who dropped to ninth with Alonso Lopez rounding out the top 10.
TODAY I STARTED FROM THE BACK AND IT IS NOT EASY TO RECOVER POSITIONS. HOWEVER, WE DID A GREAT JOB THIS WEEKEND AND I AM SURE THAT WITH A BETTER QUALIFYING THE RESULT IN THE RACE WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT. I THANK THE TEAM.

I AM VERY HAPPY NOT ONLY WITH TODAY’S RACE, BUT WITH THE WHOLE WEEKEND. WE ARE WORKING WELL AND IMPROVING A LOT: IT WILL BE IMPORTANT TO CONTINUE ON THIS PATH. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE TEAM FOR THEIR EXCELLENT WORK THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND. NOW THE SUMMER BREAK! SEE YOU AT SILVERSTONE!

I’M SUPER HAPPY WITH TODAY’S RACE. IT’S A SHAME WE STARTED A BIT FURTHER BACK. EVERY DAY WE HAVE BEEN IMPROVING, TAKING VERY SOLID STEPS THAT HAVE ALLOWED US TO ENJOY THE RACE AND LEARN A LOT. I’M VERY GRATEFUL TO THE TEAM AND EAGER TO FACE THIS BREAK TO KEEP WORKING.
